Continuity Clinic

Every resident attends a weekly continuity clinic supervised by faculty members at UCSD/Rady's or in the San Diego community.  Our residents have a unique opportunity to see patients at 19 different sites in the county ranging from private practice settings, community health centers, and academic faculty practices.

Sub-Specialty Clinic

Every 2nd and 3rd-year resident attends a sub-specialty clinic 2 afternoons/month during outpatient rotations. Each individual resident chooses their clinic based on their individual interest.  Every pediatric sub-specialty clinic is available, in addition, residents have chosen to do individual mentored research, or work with hospice.

Community Pediatrics

Interns participate in a month long rotation in Community Pediatrics. They also spend three afternoons during the intern year on an immersion day to learn about the diverse cultures in San Diego. Past immersion days have taken them across the border to Mexico, on-board the Naval Ship Ronald Reagan, and into the Native American culture.

Second and 3rd Year Residents choose an area of interest and design a community-based project to benefit childrens' health.  Some recent projects include:

  • Mentorship program for at-risk youth in Mid-City
  • Reach-out-and-Read
  • Nutrition education in the schools
  • Health Fair
  • Residential home for teens with learning disabilities and behavioral problems
  • Series of Community Pediatrics Film nights
