Welcome to the UCSD Pediatrics Residency Program!
Thank you for your interest in our program. The UCSD Pediatric Residency Program strives to train residents through a fully accredited program in the practice of general pediatric medicine, with special emphasis if desired, on community pediatrics, behavioral pediatrics, academic/research pediatrics, and border health. During the three years of consecutive training, the resident will evolve progressively with increasing knowledge and responsibility to all aspects of general pediatric medicine, with high quality in the community.
Our program provides a broad exposure to the health care of children with substantial experience in the management of diverse pathologic conditions in the settings of acute and chronic illness along with experience in child health maintenance. The UCSD program has a diverse patient population and the residents have training at various hospital sites, with close monitoring of the different sites to ensure a unified educational experience for each resident.
Our UCSD pediatric resident participates in a variety of programs for continued intellectual growth. Multiple didactic opportunities are incorporated into the curriculum to enhance resident development and training. Our program recognizes the importance of close supervision and mentorship. Each resident is paired with a mentor suited to their future clinical or research interests. Our goal is to develop a close mentored relationship between the housestaff and faculty so that career development in pediatrics is fostered, and the resident will gain the tools to understand the steps involved in advancing their careers. Additionally, exciting new growth has occurred in the department to expand resident exposure to Global Health, advocacy trainig and quality improvement.
