The Department of Pediatrics provides system management services for network connected PC devices that are part of the department’s active directory. The Active Directory is used to track licensing compliance, provides authentication services to restricted Pediatrics department resources and allows for remote deployment of software and system upgrades.

Due to limited resources, these systems are centrally managed. Per UCSD Medical Center guidelines, no end users are administrators on these systems. These systems receive the following services:

Operating System Installation, setup, troubleshooting, upgrades and repairs |

Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Project, Visio, Infopath, Onenote and Publisher |

E-trust Antivirus or Microsoft Forefront Client security (Transition in progress) |
| • |
Centrally managed software installation, including patch testing and deployment |

Compliance with UCSD Minimum Network Requirements |

Network server share space for document storage and collaboration |
| • |
Server backup for disaster recovery purposes. All files are backed up for 6 weeks prior |

Pediatrics Exchange server mail account for calendar sharing, mailing lists and personal information management |

Sharepoint Portal Services My Site for personal web space, team collaboration and remote access to documents |
These services are only provided for supported hardware and software. Due to limited resources and training requirements, only selected systems can be supported at this time. These are listed here:

Supported Software
The department provides installation all software with a justified business use. Please see your supervisor for permission before submitting the request. Proof of purchase should be submitted with your installation request via our Help Desk. Each workstation generally requires a license. Instant messaging, peer-to-peer file sharing and certain collaboration software will not be permitted on the network.
